A City Terrace, Reimagined with Silk Plants

When we began styling this urban terrace, some of the furniture was already in place. The generous balcony wraps around the building, and the brief was to make it more inviting and practical, with easy-care plants and distinctive planters—an ideal meeting of interior design and greenery.

As the residents had little time to care for plants, we chose lifelike silk greenery for the terrace.

The narrower side of the terrace needed a place to dine. We considered bistro tables as well as a larger dining table with a bench and chairs. The larger table now welcomes a group, while the existing sofa offers another place to sit and dine when friends gather. Opposite it, a bamboo bench suits the relaxed setting. Planters and silk plants bring it to life; the bench can also be moved beside the sofa or used as extra seating.

We carried the interior’s palette onto the terrace, allowing the living space to flow naturally outdoors. Weather-resistant artwork links the areas, while sculptural planters and greenery add an inviting, almost Mediterranean character and offer a little privacy.

At the far end of the terrace, a lounge area was already furnished with relaxed bamboo pieces. We brought in more colour and greenery, repeating the shades from indoors. A chest, small side tables, artwork and flower vases lend the space the feeling of another room, while the plants and planters make it more welcoming.

The sun was shining and the terrace felt wonderfully warm. A glazed balcony can be a demanding environment for plants, so it was especially satisfying to see how well the chosen foliage suited the setting.
